Main features
mulot has various features helping researchers and network operators in analyzing network traffic, the most important are:
- mulot provides different types of scatter plots (corresponding to IP addresses, or port numbers) and time series (e.g., throughput and average packet size). All these graphical representations can easily be understood because they are limited to two dimensions.
- It displays network traffic at different resolutions, and allows zooming in/out along the time axis or address/port space.
- By analyzing traffic, users have to focus on particular time and space regions. mulot allows network traffic to be easily navigated.
- Also, mulot allows us to inspect traffic in detail by displaying an accurate graphlet and retrieving original data from plotted points.
- To enable traffic displayed in one of these graphical representations to be better understood, mulot allows two figures to be compared simultaneously.
- This tool can run on different platforms on a daily basis, it uses no intermediate database, and it directly reads dump files (pcap form).
